Kerala Kalan

Delicious gravy made in curd with raw bananas

  • Medium Ripe Banana - 2, cubed
  • Small onion - 3, sliced
  • Green chilli - 2
  • Coconut - 1.5 cup
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
  • chilli powder - ½ tsp
  • Curd - 3 cups
  • Sugar - 2 tsp (Optional)
  • Mustard - ½ tsp
  • Fenugreek - ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves
  • Dry red chillies
  • water
  • Salt
  • Coconut oil
  • Cook the diced banana with turmeric powder, chilli powder and small onions .
  • Grind together coconut, cumin seeds,curry leaves,green chillies and turmeric powder with less water to a smooth paste.
  • Add the curd with coconut paste and give a quick mix.
  • Add the curd coconut mixture to the cooked banana, let it simmer and Stir continuously.
  • Add sugar if you want the curry to be more sweet.
  • Stir continuously and switch off the heat before it starts boiling.
  • Heat coconut oil in a small pan and crackle the mustard seeds, fenugreek, red chillies and curry leaves.
  •  Pour it over the curry.
