Pathila Thoran

INGREDIENTS

  • thalu- wild colocasia leaves 1/4 Cups
  • takara- cassia tora sickle pod 1/4 Cups
  • thazhuthama - spreading hogweed 1/4 Cups
  • mathan ila- pumpkin leaves 1/4 Cups
  • payar ila - cow pea leaves 1/4 Cups
  • chena ila- elphant yam leaves 1/4 Cups
  • chembu ila- colocasia leaves small ones 1/4 Cups
  • pacha cheera- green spinach 1/4 Cups
  • koovalam- ivy gourd leaves 1/4 Cups
  • choriyanam- tragia involucrate (with reddish stem) 1/4 Cups
  • grated coconut 1 Cups
  • shallots chopped 1/4 Cups
  • jeera 1 Teaspoons
  • mustard seeds 1 Teaspoons
  • raw rice 1 Teaspoons
  • coconut oil 2 Tablespoons

INSTRUCTIONS

These are called pathila thoran used mainly in karkadakam , a malayalam month (july- august time period), tender leaves are used for thoran 

pathila or 10 leafy veggies used here are :



  1. thalu- wild colocasia leaves

  2. takara- cassia tora sickle pod

  3. thazhuthama - spreading hogweed

  4. mathan ila- pumpkin leaves

  5. payar ila - cow pea leaves

  6. chena ila- elphant yam leaves

  7. chembu ila- colocasia leaves small ones

  8. pacha cheera- green spinach

  9. koovalam- ivy gourd leaves

  10. choriyanam- tragia involucrate (with reddish stem)


Method: 

Grind coconut, jeera in a mixie and keep aside.

In a pan , splutter jeera, raw rice and mustard seeds .

add chopped  shallots, saute for a minute. now add all finely chopped tender greens , add coconut mix  saute

let it cook and drain excess water (all together it takes less than 5 minutes).

serve hot with rice.
